外掛在 Moodle 內擔任重要的角色，可以說Moodle 主要特色功能(features)都是由外掛組成的。外掛除了提供 LMS 主要功能外，也擴充了Moodle次要功能，讓 Moodle 可以跟其它系統整合、甚至將其它系統併入 Moodle 內。
